The Career & Networking Fair is a great opportunity to network with many employers who are interested in UNC MPA Students. Some will have PWEs they are looking to hire for, some will have Full Time Job opportunities, and/or some are there to network with students for future opportunities. Each organization is one that brings a lot of value for you to learn from and interact with and are there to make connections with you! The fair typically takes place each January at the School of Government and is open to all students
Prior to the Fair:
- Research questions you may have about organizations that are coming
- What challenges or wins have they had in the past year?
- Are there any projects they have upcoming that you want to learn more about?
- Are there positions that they have for full-time jobs or PWEs that are posted? Do you have questions about those that are posted… if so ask!
What to bring to the Fair:
- Copies of your resume or business card to give to employers
- A folder can be a great way to carry those materials.

- Ask questions: Advanced research will help you prepare smart questions. After a quick introduction, ask about what they may be recruiting for, what opportunities they have (or may have in the future), and anything you are curious about their organization.
- After discussions, find a place to stop and take notes: Notes don’t have to be extensive. Note the reason you want to follow up, contact information, and content of conversation.
- Follow up within a few days: Decide which leads are of interest and follow up with an e-mail that picks up where the discussion left off. If you have been directed to an online application, complete it, send the recruiter a thank you and let the contact know you applied. If you connected personally with a recruiter, but there is no immediate opportunity for you, send the recruiter a thank you note and a LinkedIn request.
