Identifying your skills and experiences that you can contribute to a job, what you’d like to do in your job/career, the type of organization you want to work for, and/or where you want to work, developing your network, editing your professional documents, searching, applying for, and interviewing are all part of the job search process. Review information on the job search strategy.

Career and Networking Fair

The Career & Networking Fair is be a great opportunity to network with many employers who are interested in UNC MPA Students. Some will have PWEs they are looking to hire for, some will have Full Time Job opportunities, and/or some are there to network with students for future opportunities. Each organization is one that brings a lot of value for you to learn from and interact with and are there to make connections with you! The fair typically takes place each January at the School of Government and is open to all students.

Evaluating Job Offers

Once you’ve put in the steps of the job search process, up comes the next step, the coveted job offer! Congratulations on getting the offer, this is due to a lot of hard work on your part (knowing people can count as hard work- it is networking!)

*Note that if you aren’t receiving offers, reach out to Allison Binkley and/or Shauna Hines-Farmer, as we can evaluate your professional documents, types of positions you are applying to, and your interview process to determine how we can strategize so that you receive offers!

As you go through the process of making a decision, make sure you know enough about the organization, the job, and the details of each offer to weigh one offer against another. If you lack information, seek it out by asking the employer, researching the organization, and talking to others who work at or are familiar with the organization or job. Review information on evaluating offers to put together potential different items as you consider the offer and potential negotiation.
