The Service to Service program empowers veterans and military family members to build impactful careers in state and local government. As a national initiative, it provides military-affiliated students with a strong network, financial support, and career development resources to help them transition into leadership roles in public service.
What does being a Service to Service Scholar entail?
National Cohort Experience
- A supportive national network of veterans and military family members transitioning to state and local government positions.
- Connection with peers across the country and on campus for shared learning and networking opportunities.
Scholarships and Financial Support
- All participating students receive a minimum $2,500 scholarship.
- Eligibility to apply for Graduate Assistantships (GAs) and Research Assistantships (RAs), which may offer tuition coverage and stipends.
Career Development and Professional Support
- Dedicated career and professional development resources to help you advance in leadership roles within state and local government.
Programming for Service to Service Scholars
In-Person Orientation
- Optional cohort-wide orientation in Fall 2025 (likely at Ohio State University) to connect with fellow scholars and kickstart your journey.
Virtual and On-Campus Engagement
- Virtual events and meetings with Service to Service peers throughout the academic year.
- In-person events for UNC Service to Service Scholars to network with faculty, staff, and fellow students.
